waaaay too much cuteness for one blog!

I borrowed my friend Erika's flash to take some photos of Anna. My external flash doesn't have the fancy features hers does - best way I can describe it in layman's terms. So last night after our bath we played with manual mode and the flash. They aren't in the order which they were taken, in fact, the last 3 or 4 were taken first...not that it really matters.

Tuesday. Dec 22...

I would just like it to be known that on the 22nd of Dec. I stated that I wanted to have a 6lb 3oz baby. I think I got pretty stinking close to that!! LOL! Just reading back through some old blogs.

Christmas...next year.

We're ready! I've wanted to order these stockings for years! YEARS! I always told myself I'd wait till I had kids and then I'd get them. Nothing like being a month old and getting your stocking for next Christmas! Sadly they were sold out of the Snowman so I didn't get one for myself. I'll wait till next year or find one on ebay.

and I thought it would be funny to order them for Kyla and Ginger too - they have these adorable "baby's first Christmas" - but I thought maybe if I didn't have a name monogrammed on the stocking, they'd leave off the '1st Christmas' but Pottery Barn tells me they already have that on all of them. Time to break out the seam ripper! Since they were on clearance I can't return them.

dog walking and snow shoveling

I'll be the first to say I love the snow, if it's going to be cold, it might as well snow. It's beautiful and white and I'm DONE WITH IT!! OVER! NO MORE! I miss flip flops and capri pants and not having to worry about putting on enough layers just to walk my dogs. Bring on Summer!!

Today the wonderful Pam came over to help me walk the dogs. We got another 4-5" of snow last night, and it's been super windy so there are snow drifts all over our favorite field. One minute we were walking on top of old snow and ice and the next we would sink into a foot of snow. Thanks to the moby wrap Anna was happy as a clam and napped for most of our walk.

Anna and I - wearing Brian's jacket. Not sure what I'm going to do when she gets to big to fit under his coat.

Anna Elleson Smit

I've been a very bad blogger. I admit it! Horrible! I even typed up a blog while I was in the hospital (baby Anna was 'in the box') and I still haven't posted it!!

Little Anna Elleson Smit arrived on January 5, 2010 at 3:34 in the afternoon. She weighed in at 6lbs 2oz and 19 inches long.

Here's a summery of the big day (I typed it up in the hospital)

Tuesday: The Big Day.
(sing with me!) Here's the story....of a lovely lady...who gave birth in a tub on a Tuesday...but wait, let's back up to Monday. Monday I went into to see my midwife, Frau Wagner, about inducing me and had my second around of acupuncture. I got the pinky toe this time. She was right - it HURT, well at least the right one did. I barely felt the left one. I also got monitored and then Brian and I headed home for the day. Tuesday we were up bright and early to be at the hospital by 8. Frau Wagner went to work, checked my cervex and inserted a herb pill to induce my labor. By 10am the contractions were starting, just as she predicted - she said 2 hours and sure enough, it was almost 2 hours on the dot - she's good. 5280+ babies good. Yes, you read that right she has delivered over 5200 babies!! Brian and I walked the halls, hung out, laid down, hung out some more, walked the halls and waited. By 1:30 she moved me to a labor room - the contractions were in full swing and after laying down to be monitored for a about 45 minutes, Frau Wagner brought out the bouncy ball and I got to bounce my way from 4cm to 8cm. About 3pm we headed to the birthing tub to labor some more. Two thumbs up on the birthing tub. Yes, painful, but still an amazing experience! I didn't want to get out when it was all said and done, but I'm getting ahead of myself. I can't really give you the details of the birth, it's a blur to me. Maybe I can get Brian to pipe in give his two cents. I do remember breathing a lot and Dr. Stein showing up about 30 seconds before she came out. At 3:34 in the afternoon our little Anna made her debut. It's pretty amazing to be able to hold your baby when she's literally seconds old. Still blue (we had a little cord issue), but I held her as Dr. Stein sucked out her mouth, Frau Wagner prepped the cord and Brian got to cut it. By 3:50 I was out of the tub and walking to a recovery room to get stitched up. Frau Wagner cleaned her up a bit and checked her out while the Dr. Stein gave me local pain medicine and started on the stitches (I found out today I had 4 stitches), by the time he started, Anna was back with mommy - hanging out for a few minutes while I got stitched then we started our first feeding. She has done a great job of latching on and thanks to the "still tee" (milk tea) we're getting the hang of the breast feeding. I got some food and we headed to the room.

Anna napping between Kyla and I - this is about as close as Kyla will get without freaking out and running away. The dogs have been amazing. Ginger as I suspected could care less about Anna, every now and then she comes by to sniff at her and that's about it. Kyla hangs out a bit more, she will lay next to Anna on the couch, and follows Anna and me where ever we go.
